VATOS Laser Tag Set Review: $48.99 Projector Duck-Hunt Game — Honest Verdict
Looking for an honest laser tag set review before you buy? The VATOS CSTAG laser tag set pairs two infrared pistol guns with a projector that throws duck and UFO targets onto your wall. It costs $48.99 on AliExpress. I dug through the listing, the specs, and every written buyer review to find out whether it is actually worth your money.
In this review, I cover what is in the box, how the projector game mode works, the real pros and cons, and who should skip it. No hype, no fake scarcity — just the facts as I found them.
The short version: This is a fun projector shooting game with a laser-tag mode, not a classic guns-and-vests laser tag set. The two infrared guns feel solid, buyers say the kids have a great time, and free US shipping with 90-day returns lowers the risk. However, the listing says ages 14+, the battery details are confusing, and one buyer reported the two guns failing to work together. At $48.99, it is a fair buy for family game nights — as long as you know what it actually is.
Best for: families who want a screen-free indoor shooting game for game nights and parties.
The VATOS CSTAG laser tag set is a $48.99 indoor shooting game that combines two infrared pistol guns with a small projector unit. The projector displays cartoon duck and UFO targets on your wall, and players shoot them with the infrared guns. It also includes a team-color laser-tag mode for player-versus-player games.
Here is the important part: despite the name, this is not a traditional laser tag set with sensor vests. Instead, it is a projector-based target shooting game with a laser-tag-style battle mode added. That distinction matters, so keep it in mind as you read.
In the box, you get two infrared mini pistol guns, one projector unit, and a manual. The guns use infrared signals (the same basic tech as a TV remote), which the listing describes as child-safe. Everything runs on batteries, which are not included — more on that confusion below.
VATOS CSTAG Features — In Detail
Two Infrared Guns Plus Projector
The core of the set is simple. The projector throws moving duck and UFO targets onto any blank wall. Then you aim the pistol guns and shoot. Hits register with flashing lights and sound effects, so players get instant feedback. According to verified buyers, the projection looks good even with the room light on.
Team Colors and Game Modes
The set supports multi-mode play with team colors. As a result, two players can battle head-to-head, or you can run solo target practice. Buyers mention playing against each other as a highlight. It is the closest thing here to real laser tag.
Child-Safety Infrared Signal
The guns use low-power infrared signals rather than actual lasers. Therefore, there is no laser beam involved at all. That said, the usual toy-gun rule still applies: do not aim at faces or eyes.
Flashing Lights and Sound Effects
Both the guns and the projector use flashing lights and electronic sound effects. These make hits feel rewarding, especially for younger players. On the other hand, the sounds could get old for parents during a long game night.
Build Quality: ABS Plastic
The guns and projector are made of ABS plastic, the standard material for electronic toys. No buyer complained about flimsy build quality in the written reviews. Still, these are $48.99 toy guns, so treat them as toys, not rugged outdoor gear.
Pricing & What’s Included
The set costs $48.99, and there is only one variant: 2 guns plus the projector. The listing shows a strikethrough price of $163.30, but I would ignore that — it is inflated marketing, not a real discount.

The Cons
It is a projector shooting game, not a true guns-and-vests laser tag set — expectations need managing.
The listing recommends ages 14+, which clashes with the “kids’ gift” marketing.
Battery details are contradictory in the listing, and batteries are not included.
One verified buyer reported the two guns failing to work together.
The spec lists a 1-meter maximum range, which seems short.
The $163.30 strikethrough price is inflated marketing.
Store feedback is 95.1% — just above our quality bar.
Who Should Buy This Laser Tag Set?
Best For
Families planning indoor game nights or birthday parties.
Parents who want screen-free active play at home.
Buyers who value fast US shipping and free returns.
Older kids and teens (given the 14+ recommendation).
Not For
Anyone expecting a classic laser tag set with sensor vests.
Parents shopping strictly for small children — check the 14+ age note first.
Outdoor daytime play — the projection needs a wall and dimmer light.
Laser Tag Set vs Alternatives
Vs Classic Guns-and-Vests Sets
Traditional laser tag sets use wearable sensor vests and work outdoors over long distances. They cost more and need open space. The VATOS set is cheaper and self-contained, but it cannot match that experience. Choose based on where you will actually play.
Vs App-Connected Blasters
App-connected blasters add phone-based scoring and stats. However, they reintroduce screens — the very thing many parents want to avoid. The VATOS set keeps everything physical and simple, which is arguably its biggest strength.
Vs DIY Target Games
You could rig up targets with a cheap projector and toy guns, but syncing hits, sounds, and scoring yourself is a project. This set does it out of the box for $48.99. For most families, that convenience is worth it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the VATOS laser tag set a scam or legit?
It is legit. The set has 376 sold, a 4.7-star average, and multiple verified buyers describing real gameplay. It ships from a US warehouse with 90-day free returns. Just understand that it is a projector shooting game with a laser-tag mode, not vest-based laser tag.
Are batteries included?
No. The listing’s spec table says batteries are not included, even though other parts of the page are confusingly worded. Buy batteries separately before game night so nobody is disappointed.
What age is it for?
The listing recommends ages 14 and up, even though it is marketed as a kids’ gift. Younger children can enjoy the target shooting with supervision, but parents should weigh the age note themselves.
Do both guns work at the same time?
They are designed to. However, one verified buyer reported that the two guns did not work together. Other buyers describe playing against each other without issues. If yours has this problem, use the 90-day free returns.
How far does it project?
The spec lists a 1-meter maximum range, which seems short and may refer to the projector rather than the guns. Buyers report good visibility across a normal room. Set the projector 6–10 feet from the wall for the sharpest image.
Does it need WiFi or an app?
No. Everything works out of the box with no app, no WiFi, and no screen. That is one of its best traits for parents limiting screen time.
Final Verdict: Is It Worth It?
Rating: 4.0/5
Buy it if: you want a fun, screen-free indoor game for family nights; you are fine with a projector shooter rather than vest laser tag; and fast US shipping with free returns matters to you.
Skip it if: you want real outdoor laser tag with vests, you are shopping for small children, or the 14+ age note bothers you.
At $48.99, the VATOS CSTAG set earns its 4.0/5. The fun factor is real and well documented by buyers. Yet the honest catches — the projector-game reality, the age-label clash, and the battery confusion — keep it from scoring higher. Go in with clear expectations, and it delivers.
✍️ My Personal Verdict
After reading every written review and the full listing, I like this set for what it is — but only for what it is. The buyer quotes about kids having a great time feel genuine, and the projection working with lights on solves the biggest worry I had. Still, I would not buy it expecting backyard laser tag, and the 14+ label on a “kids’ gift” listing would make me pause for younger children. For a family game night with older kids, at $48.99 with free US shipping and 90-day returns, I think it is a fair, low-risk buy. Just bring your own batteries.
